Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

Appealing Organizations

When I look at helping others I have an understanding that the best practice is to provide an opportunity for all children regardless of their age. My goal is to provide an opportunity for children to experience things that have not been experienced before. I want children to know that regardless of where they live, who their parents are, or the neighborhood that they live in they still have a chance to experience the same opportunities as all other children, whose parents are successful.

I have chosen to review International Step by Step Association. The ISSA is an organization that caters to the needs of children. “ISSA’s vision is a society where families, communities and professionals work together to empower each child to reach her or his full potential and embrace values of social justice and equity.”

To become a member of the ISSA I first have to choose an area. I have chosen the Capacity Building department. In this department you are trained on how to conduct programs such as workshops, thematic meetings, and technical assistance and license to resources developed by ISSA. There were no pacific requirements for becoming applying for this jobs, but I am assuming at you have to be at least 18 years of age.

Next, I have chosen the United Nation’s Children Fund. For this program you placed on a pacific duty. The assignments usually last for 2-4 years, depending on the need of the assignment. An individual who want to apply for a longer term must apply for a different department. UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.

The qualification for working with UNICEF is being able to share the same vision has the organizations. The company wants to ensure that the individuals who are agreeing to serve with them are not in it for the money, but to make a difference in the lives of others. I chose this organization because I have said repeatedly that I want to make a difference in the lives of young children, and what way to continue that goal than being a part of an organization that lives to make that happen.

Lastly, I would like to work for Academy for Educational Development as a Grant Manager. The Grant Manager

•Provide leadership and oversight for grants and contracts management on the LINKAGES project in Thailand.

•Manage and ensure compliance for all subawards to implementing partners (IPs).

•Train and mentor relevant project staff and IPs staff on managing and monitoring subawards.

•Oversee and support subaward start-up and close-out.

I have seen so many programs go under because they did not receive support from the grantee. As a grant manager I want to provide that needed support, policies, and documentations and tools that are needed to provide programs with accurate information for success.

In order to qualify for this position, you must hold a BA in Business Administration, Finance or another relevant field required, Master’s degree preferred, and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in grants and contract management.
