When I first returned back to school I had know intention on doing research. I have always loved during research papers, but never considered during an actual research project until I came to the conclusion of my last course. Being able to determine an outcome of something fairly new, or updating or readjusting something that appeared incomplete or lack of findings would be amazing to have my name placed on.
From taking this course I've learned that there is a lot more to doing research than reading what someone else has already completed. Research projects are extremely intense and cause for a lot of time an patience and the consistency of the participates and those assisting with making the research a valid success.
When doing a research I have a better understanding that each step has to have the appropriate amount of time to complete and all outcomes whether successful or not must be considered. No one should become discouraged when completing a project, mishaps may occur, but it will cause you to rethink and revisit what went wrong, and sometimes cause for new findings to occur.
When considering the research project I had trouble determining the independent and dependent variables. I did not have a clear understanding of their purpose. With the help of Dr. Myers, she clarified a lot of my misinterpretations and why I needed to change what I originally stated for my variables.
I have come to understand even more the importance of the early childhood field, and why we as educators have been viewed as less important and many of our task are often questioned. Being an early childhood professor brings about content findings and understanding, but it is up to the professionals to explain how we came to the understanding.
I have enjoyed this course and appreciate Dr. Myers for giving me a better understanding and a greater understanding of my purpose in this field.
