Communicating

While at work, among friends, and family members I act the same way. At work I am a supervisor so their is always someone watching my attentions and listening to how I respond to certain situations. At tend to act the same way around families members because this is who I am. I am comfortable with myself and I appreciate what I have become and what I am developing into. Is it okay to let go sometimes? Yes, but their is a time and place for everything. Now, when I am at home I act a little differently around my other half. I can be free to do what I please. I do not stray to far from my everyday demeanor because like I stated previously, this is who I am.

When communicating with others I want to ensure that I am paying close attention to there facial expressions. A lot of the facial expressions that people tend to make tell how they feel, and this is vice versa. I do not want to make a facial expression that will cause someone to think that I am not listening or interested in what they are saying.
Another technique that I want to keep a clear understanding is the background of the individual that I am speaking with. Their may be certain things that would be considered inappropriate in some cultures, and when we are speaking with others we must respect their beliefs and cultural backgrounds.
Another strategy that I believe is valuable is recognizing that I do not offend anyone when speaking and/or suggesting ideas. Building a relationship with the person you are communicating with will lead to a better outcome in the long run.

  1. I am a facial expression person, I work in the financial industry. I told my direct manager I wanted to work directly with customers. He told me he felt it was a bad idea due to my facial expression I make tells everything I am feeling and thinking. i really did not understand what he meant until I was recorded. I have to cautious of the facial expression I make when communicating.

  2. TaShanna,
Facial expressions are really hard to control if you are unaware of them. I have a teacher that automatically roles her eyes when you tell her something or she asked why. She didn't realize it until I said something to her. When I communicate I tend to put my hands on my hip. This is something that I work hard to change.
