My Family Culture

My family's culture and beliefs are dear to me, as I would think everyone else is as well. If my family and I were shipped to another country and forced to live there permanently, I would take a portrait of the entire family, the piece of the blanket that my mother made for me when she first started to crochet, and my bible.

I chose the portrait of the entire family because I can always pull it out and remember where I came from and the impact that they have made on my life. Looking at the portrait can cause me to remember that I have been taught that regardless of where I live I can still have a piece of my past and history with me.

I chose a  piece of the blanket my mother made because it shows that regardless of how old you are , you are still able to accomplish a goal. My mother had just taught herself how to crochet and the first thing she did was make me a blanket.

Lastly, I chose my bible. The country and culture is totally different than what I am use to, so I want to carry what I believe in and refer back to it when I made become a little down.

When describing the importance to others, I would invite them to sit down with me and talk, so I can explain the importance. I chose to have someone sit down with me because I can invite them into my culture and what we do when we are having a discussion. Once arriving in a new country and I am told that I have to give of two things and keep one, I would keep the portrait of my family. It is great history in the portrait.

This assignment has made me realize how much I cherish my family.Regardless of how much they may get on my nerves at times, I appreciate each and everyone of them. They are a part of me and they help me to realize that family has created a great impact on who I am today.

  1. Hi TaShanna -
I have always said that family makes you who you are. I know as we get older we change a few things here and there to make our lives our own, but in the end it is the experiences, traditions, culture and love of our family who gave us the foundation and helped make us who we are. I can agree that my family gets on my nerves A LOT, but I love each and everyone and it is through every experience with family, friends, colleagues, and strangers; that I am who I am today.
    Thanks for sharing!

  2. I agree with your post so much, and I found a lot of similarities between your post and mine. I too, chose a picture of my parents because I did not want to forget where I came from. I chose a religious piece to take with me as well to represent my faith that no challenge is to big for God. You are right family help shapes and mold the people who are within the family, Thank you for sharing with us!

  3. Hello TaShanna,

Great Post!!! I also would take family photos. The photos help you to remember the foundation that your family has built.
