I have never heard these two quotes before, but believe in both of them. I have always felt it is not our job to insist in a child's obedience, but our job is to kind them to where they can make their own decision and consequences for their own actions. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOur curriculum is HighScope and in that curriculum children are encouraged to make their own decisions and choices. In that children are given a lot of freedom, but they do understand that their are boundaries and rules they must follow.
DeleteI love this second quote by Teacher Tom and completely agree with him. I see this with my kids every day. It is only after the first few weeks where they learn to feel safe and secure that they can start learning rules and ways to regulate themselves. After they learn to trust us, they want to listen and hear what we have to say!
